*** Bassplayer Kiss Lickss proud of his Gene Simmons American Flag Axe ***
Bassist and KISS cofounder Gene Simmons has carefully orchestrated every aspect of his long career. It’s no surprise then that the musical instrument that would complete Simmons’ KISS character, known as “The Demon,” would also be designed to his exacting specifications.
This expensive custom-order instrument is now available for no less than €. 7.500,00 (stage played €. 11.500,00) Not exactly an affordable working-musician’s bass. The Axe is authorized by The Demon himself, with Simmons’ signature emblazoned on the headstock.
And what an instrument! The electric bass that bears the Gene Simmons imprimatur is a professional-level and versatile-sounding bass that just happens to bear a striking (sorry!) resemblance to a medieval executioner’s axe. Though musicians since the 1930s have been referring to their instruments as “axes,” Simmons took the concept to literal extremes, all in support of his over-the-top, blood-spitting stage persona.
